Thanks for visiting my website. As a prosecutor, a legislator and most importantly, a father, I understand the challenges parents face to keep their kids safe. The Internet has made this even more difficult in the last few years. That's why I have sponsored laws to give law enforcement the tools to crack down on the sexual predators who prey on our kids. That's also why I want to take this opportunity to provide you with some basic tips to keep your kids safe and a list of the codes they use on the internet.

Three Tips for Parents

1. Most child victims of internet predators were alone in a bedroom on a computer. Move your child's computer out of the bedroom and into a common area. This will allow you to keep a closer eye on the websites they visit and monitor their “chat” conservations.
   
2. Check what your child is posting on line every day. Most teens and some younger kids now have a Myspace page, www.myspace.com a Facebook page, www.facebook.com , or some other blog or page on the internet. Ask your child to show you their page and make sure you know how to access it yourself. If the page is protected by a password, require that they provide you with the password so you can check it every day. It may seem like an invasion of privacy, but it is important to keeping your kids safe. 
   
3. It seems like kids have created their own language on the internet. Below is a list of the secret codes kids use to communicate in chat rooms, instant messages, emails and text messages.

      15. RU/18 - Are You Over 18
